Why Choose ColorChlor?

ColorChlor was designed and engineered by people that have over 15 years experience in designing
& producing chemical automation systems for pools and spas and over 20 years experience in the
swimming pool industry servicing, repairing & training in recreational water facilities ranging from 200
to 1.8 million gallons of water.

When chlorine generation made its mark on swimming pools and spas due to its ease of use,
exceptional water quality and bather comfort, many requests were made for a device that was
suitable for a hot tub.

After 3 1/2 years of development, we came up with a design that is simple, economical and fun to
use. We made ColorChlor with the hot tub owner in mind, keeping it simple while making it intelligent
enough to adapt to changes in the hot tub. These variables include water temperature and hot tub
usage as ColorChlor is smart enough to know when these events occur and changes its output
accordingly to automatically keep your hot tub clean and clear day in and day out. The fun part comes
from the variety of mood enhancing light shows that ColorChlor is capable of performing. The lights
also have functional uses as it has no moving parts as they provide a means to program the output,
alert the user when it is time to add salt, display temperature and perform diagnostic functions.

Simply put, the ColorChlor works continuously to keep your hot tub clean, clear and trouble free with
minimal effort utilizing natural items you can get at your local grocery store. These items are non-
iodized salt, baking soda and white vinegar. The ColorChlor makes pure, natural chlorine from a
small amount of salt dissolved in the water through electrolysis, the baking soda is used for raising
total alkalinity and the white vinegar is used to lower pH.

How is this different from other hot tub treatments? Good question. There are technical answers to
this question but we will try to keep it simple for those of us without chemistry degrees.

For decades, traditional chlorine and bromine tablets and powders have been the dominant players
in the marketplace.  They are widely available and you can get started with them for under $100.00.
The problem with these products is not so much the chlorine or bromine itself, but all the other “stuff”
needed to carry the chlorine and bromine molecules. As these other ingredients dissolve and build up
in the water, they actually inhibit the chlorine or bromine from being able to oxidize the contaminants
which leads to poor water quality. This is the primary reason you need to frequently drain a hot tub to
keep the water clear. You will notice with these products that the first month after you drain and refill
your hot tub things go reasonable well with your water. Then it all goes down hill from there. These
methods end up costing more in the long run because of their corrosive nature along with the time
and water wasted from frequent draining.

Another problem with chlorine and bromine tablets is the fact that they are extremely low in pH which
causes your water to become very aggressive as the pH and total alkalinity start dropping to low
levels. This causes metal parts to deteriorate, potential discoloration to the shell and of course eye
and skin irritation. Skin irritation can also be contributed to lack of sanitizing caused by the condition
explained in the previous paragraph.

Then along came ozone. Ozone is a very effective oxidizer provided you have enough being properly
introduced into the water. It’s only real downfall is that it is highly unstable and only lasts a short period
of time so there is no residual of ozone in the water. It doe make for a very effective supplement
though. If you do have ozone, it is necessary to replace the cartridge every couple of years in order to
keep it producing effective levels of ozone.

Now we have mineral treatments which have plenty of arguments for and against them.  These are
typically copper/silver ions being introduced into the water by passing water through a cartridge filled
with beads containing low levels of copper/silver ions. The ions have the ability to kill bacteria and
algae but at a slower rate and they will not oxidize impurities so they can be filtered out. Minerals are
also likely to fall out of solution when the pH goes up and then stain surfaces, skin and clothing. Ozone
in high enough quantity will actually oxidize the ions so they end up in the filter. Minerals must have a
supplemental oxidizing agent in order to make the water clear and acceptable to use.

Chlorine Generators are devices containing electrical cells which generate chlorine from a bank of
salt added to the pool water. After being depleted, the Free Available Chlorine reverts back to salt to
be reused. This device is really not an ‘alternative’ system, as FAC is produced and reacts the same
as adding chlorine from a purchased bucket or bottle without the effects of added by- products that
come with packaged chlorine and are dissolved in the water.

This is what makes ColorChlor different. We are so confident that you will find it refreshing that we
guarantee your satisfaction.
